The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reduced the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to a date to resume, the board’s close sources told NDTV. The tournament was suspended for a week amid tension on the border between India and Pakistan. However, with India and Pakistan agreeing on a ceasefire, the tournament is expected to resume, most likely till Saturday. According to NDTV sources, the IPL Governing Council is planning to expand its window by 30 May when the tournament resumes after suspension.
BCCI will share the revised schedule in the franchise by Sunday night (May 11), the remaining matches are expected to be played at three places — Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad.
The BCCI was forced to suspend the IPL on Friday, with 16 matches, as the Indo-Pakistan border struggle threatened to grow in a fully developed war after the Pahalgam terror attack and the post-India Operation Sindoor.
A total of 12 league stage matches and four play-off stage matches can be played in the tournament. Most foreign recruits, who compete in the league for various teams, have already left the country.
The BCCI will also have to call the IPL 2025 match between PBKS and DC, which was closed after a game of just 10.1 overs in the first innings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, which was near the hill station, due to wind and drone strikes from Pakistan in Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur.
As soon as the game was closed and the audience was designed to evacuate the stadium calmly, the players of both teams and support staff members along with other personnel working around the game in Dharamshala returned to their respective hotels safely under tight security.
