The BCCI Center of Excellence (East NCA) was very embarrassed by India’s fastest bowler Mayank Yadav after another breakdown, as he was excluded from the remaining part of the IPL due to a back injury. The IPL media release said, “Yadav upheld the back injury and dismissed the remaining part of the season.” William O Rourke of New Zealand will convert him into Lucknow Super Giants for the rest of the tournament. Mayank, who returned to COE after six months of intensive rehabilitation under Sports Science and Medical Team, played two matches and conceded 100 runs in eight overs. His speed fell at a rate of at least 15 km per hour and from a side-on bowler, he became a chest-on operator after modeling his action again.

For records, Mayank has played nine T20 games between March 30, 2024 and May 20, 2025, exactly 13 months and four days.

In these nine matches, he played four T20s for Lucknow last year, when he exploded into the scene while hitting the speed gun in the middle of 150 click.

However, his first breakdown took place in April that year and he was out for six months before Ajit Agkar and Gautam Gambhir in India’s T20I team for the Bangladesh series.

By the time the series ended, his back injury started again and he missed the entire domestic season rehabilitating at NCA and then newly constructed coaches.

“Now that Nitin Patel has left, you do not know who should be asked about what is really a line of rehabilitation of Mayank. Apart from this, the next question is whether he should be asked if he was given a premature certificate, without ensuring that his back injury could resume within two games? The trainer working in the old NCA described PTI on the conditions of anonymity.

While Mayank is left ahead of only 22 more years of cricket, this frequent breakdown will definitely lose confidence in the selection committee after a point.

He has a contract for a BCCI pace bowler and is now under the board’s agent for a year, but recurrent injuries may require consultation with foreign experts with COEs who want fully.
