News & Updates

BCCI has so far announced the next Test captain of India, there are only 31 days before the tour of England.

Although it has been almost 2 weeks since Rohit Sharma resigned, BCCI was already thinking about India’s next Test captain long ago.

T-minus 31 days. How long do we have before the tour of England begins. Nevertheless, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet named the next Test captain of India cricket team. Rohit Sharma retired on 8 May and was already interacting with the BCCI for a month.

Constant delay

Therefore, the board knew that it was coming. Nevertheless, he has not yet named his replacement. The date of announcement of India’s captain and squad was before May 20. But it was shifted on 23 May as the Indian Premier League (IPL) stopped. Since it has been resumed, that date has been pushed in the last week of May.

Certainly, the IPL was stopped before the BCCI was thinking about. Talking with other boards about the revised schedule, changing places, and availability of foreign players may not be so strong that he has not finalized one of the three candidates: Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill.

Now England and Wales Cricket Board (BCCI) has not yet named its squad. But he is already as his captain and Oli Pope as his deputy as Ben Stokes. In addition, England will play Zimbabwe from 22-26 May. For India, England tour is the next stop.

Is IPL being taken into consideration?

No one can understand why BCCI is torn to name India’s next Test captain. Reports suggest that Bumrah has already been rejected due to injury concerns. But then what is the issue in choosing pants or gill? Are you waiting to see how they perform as captain in the IPL? If not, why wait? And if yes, then why?

You guess someone’s leadership or strategy. But the success of the team is one of the major things. No one is thinking about MS Dhoni, despite that he is one of the biggest strategy of cricket, while everyone is going to Gaga on Shreyas Iyer, just because because of his team’s success in the ongoing IPL.

The issue is that the IPL should not play a role in selecting India’s test captain. So what are BCCI waiting for? Neither Gill nor Pants Red-Balls have been fantastic in cricket, but they are only viable options. Should one of them take more than 2 months to choose one? Absolutely not.
