BCCI and ECB WTC fight for hosting the rights of final 2027, ICC uncertain about crowd voting in India

Rose Bowl in Southampton, Oval in Kennington and Lords WTC in Lords have been three places for the finals.

The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shown interest in hosting the 2027 World Test Championship (WTC) final. The Red-Ball tournament began at 2019, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) hosted all three finals (2021, 2023 and 2025).

BCCI WTC wants to host final 2027

The BCCI had for some time wanted to change the site for the WTC final. Then BCCI Secretary and now the International Cricket Council (ICC) President J Shah spoke about it less than a year ago. And it seems that it can be just. BCCI expressed his desire to host the final last month during the ICC meeting in Zimbabwe.

“India last month expressed his intention to bid for the final of 2027 at the meeting of the Chief Executive Officer Committee of ICC in Zimbabwe. BCCI was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Arun Singh Dhumal in the ICC Committee, while his predecessor J Shah is the president of J. Shah ICC, hence a formal Indian dialect will be considered as a Faitthette, hence a Faitthette.” A report in The Guardian states.

ECB is also interested

The WTC was the England site for the final, a major reason was due to interest in Test cricket in the country. In addition, other Cricket Boards were not keen to host the final when the tournament was scheduled initially. The ECB wants a quick decision from the ICC, which has not yet been sold 100% on the BCCI, which hosted the WTC Final 2027.

“While the ECB did not assume that it would host the WTC final, in the English summer, the English summer and a strong domestic ticket market that teams have the ability to make it a natural place. ECB should be stressed for a quick decision, as it would require time to arrange an additional home test for England in 2027, if it is a place in the WTC final, if it is a place to arrange an additional home testing, if it is a place in the WTC Finals,” Added to the report.

ICC’s concern about India as host

One reason is that ICC is not sure about giving BCCI that the Hosting rights of the WTC final are due to the fear of low crowds. We have seen fans in a large number of flocks for the last two finals, which England are not qualifying for them. The ICC feels that if India does not qualify for the final, we can see that there may be a huge hit in ticket sales.

“ICC is concerned about taking the WTC Final to India, however, the possibility of India should be failed to qualify mainly. The final in Lord’s is sold for the first four days next month, while 2023 finals in Oval were also sold despite not being included in England,” Added to the report.
