Ayush Mahtre Faultors as Vaibhav Suryavanshi Rampage in IND vs Eng 1st Yodi, Score 19-Ball 48

India U19 has taken a 1-0 lead in the 5-Match Youth ODI series.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has picked up where he left off. The 14-year-old took the world by storm during the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he scored 252 runs at a 206.55 strike rate in 7 matches for the Rajasthan Royals. After his incredible performance, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selected him for the India U19 tour of England.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues his destructive streak

Having done exceptionally well against world-class bowlers, albeit in T20 cricket, it was expected that Suryavanshi would thrive against England U19. And that’s exactly what has happened. In the 1st YODI in Hove, India U19 bowlers restricted the hosts to just 174, courtesy of some fine bowling by Henil Patel, RS Ambrish, Mohammed Enaan, and Kanishk Chouhan.

Chasing just 175, Suryavanshi arrived and scored 48 runs from just 19 deliveries. His innings consisted of 3 fours and 5 sixes. His strike was 252.63, significantly higher than any other batters in the match. Suryavanshi also bowled one bowler and conceded just 2 runs.

Ayush Mhatre fails to make his start count

However, his opening partner and India U19 captain, Ayush Mhatre, didn’t have the best experience. The 17-year-old took a rather conservative approach, especially when compared with Suryavanshi. Their partnership lasted 8.4 overs, and Mhatre departed after scoring 21 runs from 30 balls. Alex French got the better of him as Rocky Flintoff, son of England Lions head coach Andrew Flintoff, claimed his catch.

Vihan Malhotra and Vihan Malhotra, India U19’s number three and four, didn’t cross the 20-run mark as England U19 tightened the screws a little bit after Suryavanshi’s dismissal in the 8th over. However, wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu and Rahul Kumar took India U19 to an easy 6-wicket victory with 26 overs to spare.
