Australia’s Cameron Persy seized Senior PGA first round lead

Cameron Persy made a gesture to the audience for the audience after a Berdy put on two during the second round of the Gallery Classic at the Mission Hills Country Club on Rancho Mirage, California, Saturday, Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Cameron Percy did not get a complete practice round before the commencement of Senior PGA Championship, but she did not think that she needed it during the early stages at the Congress Country Club in Bethesda, MD on Thursday.

The 51-year-old Australian fired 5-under-Burbar 67 to claim a-shot lead on Keith Horn of South Africa. Another South African, Erny Els, two shots are sitting back from a quartet.

Playing near the end of the day, Percy started back at nine and 2 was below 2 in turn. He tapped in a 2-foot put for the eagle on Par-5 sixth hole and then birds number 8 to climb the top of the leaderboard.

“Today in the season we have, I am very happy with a 5 under 5,” Percy said. “It was bad out for a while. I felt that they were going to blow up the siren, but not, just keep walking, and it was very difficult. It was very difficult on your ball and all that goods, so it was really difficult to judge.”

Percy, who never won on the PGA tour and failed to cut any of them, in which he played, on Wednesday, due to continuous rains, the Congress did not get to play a practice round. In any case, he was not in great shape to practice after hurting his back on Sunday.

“Physio said that he does not play on Monday or Tuesday,” Percy said. “Now we are all old, so (my back) is very rigid. On Sunday, it was very wet and I slipped on a rock and messed up myself.”

The 53 -year -old Horn benefited from late round eagle to jump on top of the leaderboard in the morning. The Horn, who started the back nine, saw Par-4 eighth to except the 109-yard gap veg at a distance of 25 feet from the pin and bring it back to the cup.

“I was begging to shut down,” Horn said. “I don’t want any small bird.

Els won the US Open in 1997 at the Congress – one of his four major victories – so he feels at home. His 3-end-foot effort made him a relationship with Mario Tiziani, Darren Fichard of South Africa and Simon Khan of England. Tiziani brother -in -law and Champions Tour’s legendary Steve Striker is an agent.

“You know, it looks like a major,” Els said. “Last week he called (The Region Tradition) a chief, but it is just a good big champions tour event. But it has felt one more. It has found a golf course with history, and got some prestige here. So it looks good. It looks big. It looks big. A good feeling on this course.”

Stewart Sink, Fiji’s Vijay Singh and England defending champion Richard Bland are among 17 golfers, which ended at 2 pm on Thursday. Justin Leonard, South Africa’s Ritif Gosen, Ireland’s Padrig Harrington and England’s Lee Westwood 1 are among the groups in 1 under.
