Astro, rich without missing slogger, look for another win vs. Phillies

Houston Slogon Yordon Alvarez recalled his 48th game with a fracture of the right hand on Tuesday, an extended stent in the injured list that appears to have reduced Astro’s expectations.
But when Cooper Homell drove an opposite-region house against Philadelphia Philos at the eighth innings on Tuesday night, it not only inspired Astro to win a 1-0 win in the opener of this three-game inter-inter-series, it also improved its impression to 30–18 without alverages.
Teams will meet again in Houston on Wednesday, and Astro will again trust a variety of contributors. From standouts such as Jeremy Pena, Isaac Paradees and Jose Altuve to utility players such as Mauricio Dabon and Humel, Houston has excelled without alverages by employing the surprising depth within his club house.
“I think this is the next-man-up mentality,” Astro Manager Joe Espada said. “Everyone is looking for a way to help win the game. Good teams do so, and we need it. It is contagious.
“Those people there (club house), they want to live in the game. They will see me like, ‘When I am going to get my place and do something to help or contribute?” I love this team. ,
On Wednesday, the initial assignment for Astro has an initial assignment near Roki Left-Hander Colyton Gordon (2–1, 4.54 ERA). He allowed three runs (two acquired) on seven hits and did one walk in five innings on Thursday with four strikes and did not factor athletics in the decision of 6-4, 10-inning road loss.
Season-ending injuries opened the door to Gordon to start the Right-Handers Ronel Blanc and Hayden Vesnesky, who started a season with Triple-A Chinese land to contribute to the success of Astro. Gordon has released five walks and scored 34 runs in his first intake start.
Gordon will launch his first career against Phillies and his first interlayer appearance.
Right-arm zack wheeler (7-2, 2.61 ERA) is a scheduled starter for the Philos. He threw five shutouts against New York Mets on Friday, but did not decide 10–2 to win a 10–2 victory after allowing three walks with four hits and three strikes. The wheeler is 1–0 with 1.06 ERA in this month, starting with 24 strikes in 17 innings this month.
The wheeler is 1–0 with 1.50 ERA in two careers against Astro. In his previous outing against Houston, the wheeler conceded two runs on six hits and two runs with six strikes in six innings, but did not factor in the decision of 3–2, 10-inning win on 26 August, 2024.
Phillies first is growing near the returning list from the injured list, which was kept by the club about three weeks ago.
In addition to the ground balls, Harper carried out 50 swing from a tea toss on Tuesday and participated in a throwing program. Phillies do not expect Harper during their current series, but he continues to progress.
“(Wednesday) Hopefully we will get some (batting practice) in the cage,” said Rob Thomson, the manager of the Philus. “We will just continue to progress in intensity, quantity.”
