Herberto Hernandez spoiled Abbott’s shutout bid with an RBI single for Marlins, which lost for only the fourth time in 16 matches. Connor Norbi reached the ninth position.
Abbott (8–1), which was chosen to replace Los Angeles Does Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Tuesday, allowed six hits and two walks during four hits. Lafti has surrendered one in 12 out of its 16 runs or less in this season.
