An American in Paris: Coco Goff Wins French Open

The second seeded Coco Goff became the first American woman to win a French Open title since 2015, defeating Belarus 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday in Paris.

21 -year -old Gauf needed two hours and 38 minutes to win his second Grand Slam title. He won the US Open in 2023.

In a panoramic first set, neither the player was in his best form, each made 32 unexpected errors on the clay court in Rolland Garos with a four -time defeat with Sabalenka.

Sabalanka opened a 4–1 lead, but Gauf also fought back in the match at 4-4. From that point, neither won a game on his service in that set. Sabalenka had two set points, serving 5–4, but could not convert with sets with a tiebreaker. Goff jumped on a 3–0 lead in the tiebreaker, but could not catch.

However, Gauf did not allow the disappointing first set to impress his game. She did not let Sabalenka go, whose frustration increased as the match progressed, returned to it, every time she appeared to gain momentum, she failed the world.

Sabalanka won only 48 percent of the first served on her powerful service, with Goff 60 per cent win.

Goff ended with 30 winners and 30 unexpected errors, with a total of 37 and 70 respectively.

With the win, Goff improved 6–5 against 27-year-old Sabalenka.

Serena Williams Rolland was the most recent American woman to win in Garos, doing three times (2002, 2013, 2015). Gauf is the seventh American to win a women’s singles title.

Chris Evert won seven times in Paris between 1974 and 1986.
