A change of guards: These playoffs are passing the NBA torch
When Denver Nagets were abolished in Game 7 against Oklahoma City Thunder, it marked the informal change of guards in the NBA.
Boston Celtics lost Jason Tatam for the season – and pave the way for New York Nix to create the final of all – Eastern Conference of the next season. Indiana pacers again heated at the right time, easily left Gianis Antatoconampo’s milk box and Cleveland Cavelliers in five games.
Minnesota Timberwells took care of trade on their way in the finals of the Western Conference against Lebron James and Stephen Curry.
Located in the 2025 NBA playoffs, it certainly felt as if the “league face” was for the label tombs. Now, one of the Shai Gilgas-Alexander, Jalan Brunson, Anthony Edwards or Tieres Heliberton will have a real crack in winning their first NBA title.
It seemed that the stars were aligned for the lace to make the NBA final. Luka Donic’s business did not come out from anywhere in the 11th hour of the season, but it allowed Los Angeles to pair two top-five players in the league in the same roster. it did not work.
Similarly, Golden State Warriors sacrificed their future to try to win meaningful basketball games in the Curry era when they added Jimmy Butler to the mixture with the Miami heat. Did not work either.
Regular-season heroes such as Cleveland Cavelliers, Houston Rockets and Detroit Piston also proved regular-season traders-not enough talented to move forward in the highly competitive seven-game series.
But it is healthy for the league. Soon at some point, Lebron is no longer going to play. Curry probability is not far behind him. We have seen what has happened in recent years with Kevin Durant’s suicide efforts.
The NBA will soon face the same problem when Michael Jordan was officially done. It needs a new face of the league. It needs a new Cobe Bryant, Vince Carter, Alan Everson and Shakwal O’Neel.
Certainly, we can already predict some of those stars. An NBA championship in the rear pocket of Gilges-Alexander, Brunson, Edwards or Haliburton will definitely help take a torch when James, Curry and Duant have all gone.
Even under the line, you can see realistic avenues for unicorn players such as Victor Vembanyama and defensive players such as Ivan Moble to dominate this league.
While these NBA playoffs had their own proper part of blowouts, a change of guard is in front of our eyes. This is the league of a young person. These four remaining teams prove it.
