Struggling Pirates Fire Manager Derek Shelton

Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday fired manager Derek Shelton with the team in a month in their sixth season.
Bench coach Don Kelly was nominated as the manager of the pirates, who play 12-26 records and finish in the last place in the National League Central-10 games behind the Chicago cub at first place.
Pittsburgh has lost seven consecutive and 10 of their last 11 matches. The franchise was finally eligible for Postsen as a wild-card team in 2015 and was final in the National League Division Series in 2013.
Shelton, 54, took over before the 2020 season and posted a record of 306-440 career as Pittsburgh manager.
Pirates General Manager Ben Cherrington said in a statement, “Derek worked incredibly hard and sacrificed a lot in five-plas years. His family became a big part of the Pirates family and we would miss it.” “He is an incredibly smart, curious and a operated baseball leader. I believe he was the right person for a job when he was hired. I also believe that a change is now necessary. I wish Derek and his family in my next chapter.”
Kelly, 45, was in the middle of her sixth season as the Pirates bench coach before being promoted on Thursday. The Pittsburgh native started his big league with Pirates on 2 April 2007.
Pirates President Bob Newting said, “Doni is honored in our club house and as any person in our entire organization.” “He is a pirate. He sheds blood from black and gold. No one is more committed, and anyone loves this team or city more than a doni. He is the right person to manage our team and bring us back on track.”
