In their last eight holes, four Burdies swept of Xander Schaffele for a two-shot win at the Open Championships in Scotland’s Royal Tron last year.

World No. 3 expects to catch a uniform wave as he attempts to protect Clarat Jug this week at the Royal Portrash Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

“There is usually a good wave and a bad wave in an open championship,” Shoffel said on Tuesday. “You just cross your fingers that you are in a good wave and try and play well. If you are not, fight and cut for your life and then do something on the weekend.”

No golfer has won the golfer back-to-back since Padrag Harrington (2007-08) in Ireland as Tiger was corrected after Woods (2005-06).

The 31 -year -old Schoffel has set up a tournament so far to win a tournament in this season after collecting his first two major win last year at the PGA Championships in Vallah and Open. He matched his best finish of the season last week, which was with a T8 at the Genesis Scottish Open.

Although he was successful with link-style golf, he believes that he still has a lot to learn.

“I think from last week to this week, we have actually divided for this week. Ball Mark-Less and Divot-Less last week,” Sofel said.

“Just learning how the ball reacts to a certain grass, if it is going to jump or not, when you are sitting like a fescue bush or weed, how it is going to come out, how much it is going to grab your club. There are many things that you still learn on the way.

“This is just a mindset. I think when you say link golf, it comes with the season, and when you play in bad weather, you have to have a good attitude.”

Schaffele played well in three big companies this year, in eighth position in Masters, 28th in PGA and 12th in US Open.

He was last played in the Royal Portrash in 2019 for the 41st time.

“Come here, I think I am trying to re -prepare this golf course, get comfortable with some vision lines, some blind tea shots,” he said.

“I think, if I can take myself into the mixture, when I think I will have an advantage. It will be my biggest edge here. I can bow to experience at other points in time, but I think the most fun and biggest advantage I think I think can come down if I can get closer to that lead.

Schaffele is associated with Spain’s John Rahm and ruled the US Open Champion JJ Spanish for the first two rounds.
