Steve Alan’s second win of Champions season was Wire-to-Vire fashion.
Alan shot 6-under 66 on Sunday to end in style as he registered a four-stroke win over Jason Caren at Dick in Andicott, NY.
The 51-year-old Alan shot 18-under 198 in his three trips around the N-Joi Golf Club. He opened with a scorching 63 on Friday and chased with 69 on Sunday before protecting his lead.
Alan said about being a leader after each round, “It’s strange, not one of the things I never thought I would.” “Over the years I will go ahead of myself, but I think I am improving it. It was difficult, it was also difficult (Saturday) hanging there.”
Alan’s first career champion title was by a shot on tag riding at Gallery Classic in March.
This time, Allen won comfortably on Karen (68 on Sunday). Nata Begay III (67) and Bu Veekali (70) tied to the third place, found five shots under 13.
Alan recorded seven birdies, including a stretch of five in six holes between Nose 8–13. His alone bogey came to number 6.
“I think my put was very good today,” Alan said. “This was the real difference manufacturer because I hit the ball properly, but what I did is good solid put on 11, 12 and 13.
Karen had five Birds, but his only round bogie was expensive. It came to Par-3, 17th and if Alan stumbled late, any chance of being a beneficiary ended.
But Karen was pleased with a tourni in which he shot 68 or less in each round.
“I played really solid today,” said Caren. “I kept the ball amazing throughout the week, the speed was very good, was very good, and made some nice puts. I did not drive it extraordinaryly well, but my irony was very civilized, so I could not complain there. I think I had mentally played solid all week.”
Baig made five birdies at nine in front. But he was unable to make a step backwards with posting nine straight pars.
Weekly was entering a shot back in the day and made two of the first three holes. He bogged the number 7, but recovered by recording a shovedy on each of the next two holes.
But after a shirt at number 12, he dropped 13 and 15 out of the controversy.
Jeff Sluman (68), Michael Right (67) of Australia and Soren Kejeldsen (64) of Denmark finished fifth in 12-under.
Ireland’s three -time defending champion Padrig Harrington was not in the fray this week. Instead he played at the Scottish Open.
