After winning 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (6) against the fifth seed Taylor Fritz in London, two-time defending champion Carlos Alakraj has returned to the Wimbledon final.
On Sunday, the second seed Spanieng will face Italian top seed Jannik Sinner. Sinner won Serbia’s number 6 Seed Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, a seven-time champion of the Grass-Cort Grand Slam in the second semi.
Alakraj has an 8-4 head headed head against a sinner. This would be a epic French Open Final rematch in which Alakraj won the five-set marathon, which lasted for five hours, 29 minutes.
“Hopefully, this is going to be a good match like the previous one,” Sinner said in his on-court interview. “I don’t know if it could be better because I don’t think it is possible.”
22 -year -old Alakraj fought two set points in a fourth set tiebreak before finishing Fritz on a sunbed center court in two hours, 48 minutes.
“It was the always a difficult match when I had to play against Taylor. Even the circumstances were difficult – it was really hot today,” said Alakraj. “I am really happy with everything I am doing today. I have dealt with the veins. It is not easy to play here in a semi -finals. I really remained calm and clearly think, I really are proud. I am happy about my level today.”
Alakraj fired 13 aces and won 88 percent (64 out of 73) on his first serve, lost service only once. Fritz had more aces (19) and more winners (44–38), but their service was broken three times.
The 27 -year -old Fritz fell short of becoming the first American man to reach Wimbledon’s final since Andy Rodic in 2009. He has lost all three of his matches against Alkaraz.
Alkaraz extended the line of his career’s best win into 24 matches and is trying to join the Swedish Great Byorn Borg, which is the only male to sweep the French Open and Wimbledon in three direct years. Borg did it from 1978–80.
“I am not thinking about winning streak or results. It is my dream, stepping on these beautiful courts and playing tennis in the world’s most beautiful tournament,” said Alakraj. “All this I try to think in every tournament and why do I try to bring happiness in the courts.”
Alakraj is trying to become a fifth man in the open era, joining Djokovic, Roger Federer, Pete Semaprass and Borg, to win at least three directly Wimbledon titles.
The 23 -year -old Papir needed just one hour, 55 minutes to send Djokovic and reached his first career Wimbledon final.
He took a 36-27 lead in the winners and made 17 unexpected errors on 28 of Djokovic.
Djokovic, 38, was harassed by a left thigh injury and was treated late in the second set. He won the third three games of the final set before the synerg took over and won the next five matches.
Both sinners and Djokovic had 12 aces. But Djokovic suffered a lot on his second service, with only 5 out of 30 points (16.7 percent). Sinner changed 12 out of 19, one quiet 63.2 percent.
Sinner said that he was waiting for his upcoming fight with Alakraj.
“This is a great honor for me to share the court with Carlos once again,” said the sinner. “We try to push ourselves to the limits. He is one of the players I see. I like to see him.”
