What was the idea process behind starting the auction format after three sessions of the draft?It was for some reasons. Most players were originally signed three -year contracts, and now we are at the end of that cycle. Therefore, we realized that there was a good opportunity to refresh things and try something new. We wanted to open more opportunities for new players. Our one objective with ILT20 is to be the most global cricket league in the world. We felt that an auction was a good way to attract talent from different parts of the world and give teams a chance to reopen their squads.This year, teams were allowed to maintain eight players, including a mixture of international and UAE players, to maintain or directly sign up. All six teams have filled those slots. They will complete their squads in the auction and later it is also allowed to add two wildcard signing. Some teams have already started that process. The auction will also act as a launchpad for season four, create buzz and give fans to talk. It is scheduled for September, before the league starts 2 December.
What happens behind the curtains to streamline the auction process, especially the player to create the pool construction and the player’s availability?A lot of preparations include, and we have a full team that manages it. First, we are launching an online registration portal for players and agents to sign up for auction. It will remain open for about five to six weeks, leading to the lead in end of August. Once he stops, we players will finalize the pool.Legal documents and contracts are also being prepared. Logically, the auction will be a major phenomenon – site selection, top level auctioneer, and special auction software is all being handled. We are working with a major software firm to ensure that everything goes smoothly. People will visit Dubai for the incident, so all the affiliated logistics are also being taken care of. We are confident that our team will distribute.Will the match (RTM) affect the dynamics of auction? And how do wildcard signing work?Wildcard signs outside the auction are signed. Each team can sign two additional players beyond the 21-member squad at any point after a direct signature window. Some teams have started signing the wildcard; Other people may wait close to the weather.RTM applies only to UAE players. We have been running a development tournament for the last two years, and this year’s version will be just before the auction. Each franchise has a growth team – Desert Wiper, Dubai Capital, etc. If a UAE player from a development squad enters the auction and bids, the original franchise will have the final right to the match. It helps to strengthen investment in local talents and gives a tangible reward to the players to improve the development squads.Will the ILT20 increase XI in playing in the number of UAE or Associate Players?Yes, this season we are making two UAE players and an associate player mandatory in the playing XI. It can be from the Associate Player UAE or any other associate nation like Namibia, Scotland, Netherlands, Nepal or USA.Cricket is growing rapidly, and we want to support that global expansion. Right now, cricket is a top global game, but is actually taken seriously in a dozen countries. We want the ILT20 to serve as a platform for emerging countries. Ideally, after five years from now, we want to see more UAE and Associate Players in starting XIS, in which overall sports standards continue to increase.What are the unique challenges of the event Ult20 auction Compared to other leagues?The composition of the auction is usually the same in the leagues, but the LT20 had some unique challenges. Till now, we did not have a clearly defined window due to the overlapping league during January. In this season, we have pushed it forward – from early December and early January – to reduce conflicts.While the window is not completely clear, availability has improved, which should promote talent pool. The auction should run smoothly, but the uniqueness of the league lies in its international appeal. Players enjoy coming to the UAE, especially during the holiday season. Great weather, world -class facilities and family -friendly environment make it attractive. We are taking advantage of this to create a strong product, and the auction is an important part of that trip.
Will teams focus more on availability or dynamics of squad during auction?It is a mixture. Ideally, the teams want the players to be available for the entire season. But if a world class player is available only for this, they can still sign him to leave for a strong start.For example, Sharjah Warriors has signed Tim David, one of the world’s best T20 batsmen. He will play the first half before joining the Big Bash League in Australia. Teams will replace such players when needed.International commitments – such as England -Australia Test Series (Ashes) – also affects availability. Teams are used to manage it and franchise cricket operates with that flexibility. The players are accustomed to flying inside and outside on short notice.What can fans expect from auction? Will it be live-stream or offer new innovations?We are working on a plan to live auction on our digital platforms live. This should be an exciting event for fans as teams finalized their squads. There will be a possibility of surprise and new elements.RTM will be an interesting dynamic for UAE players. Additionally, we are presenting players from other Gulf countries, making the tournament more Pan-Middle Eastern. Overall, we hope that the auction provides something new to the ILT20 and fans are a reason for fans to remain engaged due to the commencement of the season construction.How has ILT20 contributed to the UAE cricket growth, especially in the development and infrastructure of the player?The development of local players has been a main objective. In any league, in any sport, a strong local base should be formed – it cannot only be about foreign stars. The UAE had a long time talented pool, partly due to its diverse population. Now, we are watching continuous progress.For example, take Ayan Khan. He has been part of the Gulf veterans since the season and has worked with top professionals such as James Wins and Chris Jordan under Andy Flower. This exposure is priceless.Each franchise has a total of four UAE players per squad – 24 out of 24 – working with coaches such as Tom Moody, James Foster and Dwayne Bravo. This raised his performance. UAE’s recent victory over Bangladesh in a bilateral series speaks volume. Players like Muhammad Wasim (MI Emirates) are now winning the ICC Player of the Month Awards. This progress is directly associated with the atmosphere of LT20.
