Sunil Gavaskar turns 76: First man persuaded for 10,000 Test runs. Cricket news

Indian cricket veteran Sunil Gavaskar celebrates his 76th birthday today. Widely considered one of the best batsmen to play sports, Gavaskar’s achievements laid the foundation for India’s world cricket. The former captain of India played 233 international matches and scored 13,214 runs including 35 centuries. He became the first player in history to become the first player to reach 10,000 runs in Test cricket, establishing a benchmark for future generations. His continuity and courage against the world’s best fast bowlers earned him a global honor. Gavaskar announced his arrival in 1971 with a brilliant first Test series against the West Indies, scoring 774 runs. This is the highest run score by a batsman in his first Test series. He also holds records with 13 tonnes for centuries against the West Indies.

Mumbai -born batsman was known for his concrete technology and quiet appearance at the crease. He is the only player who scored a dual century in each of the four innings of a Test match, with his adaptation ability in all situations. In 1980, he was named one of the Cricketers of the Year in Visden.
