Sri Lanka won the 2–1 ODI series against Bangladesh with a 99-run win in the final match at the Pellakel International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, operating by Kusal Mendis’s outstanding innings of 124 runs from 115 balls, which earned him the series player.Sri Lanka posted a total of 285/7 in the decisive match, with Mendis’ sixth ODI. Bangladesh’s chase was well reduced as he was rejected for 186 runs in the 40th over.Mendis scored 225 runs in a three-match series, showing his batting throughout the competition. His performance was particularly important after his dismissal for 56 in the second match in Colombo, where Bangladesh level the series with a 16 -run win.Mendis said after the match, “I was very happy with the knock today. I was disappointed with what happened in Colombo. I was a beginning and I could not finish. Here I was firm to bat through the innings and was very satisfied,” Mendis said after the match.

Will the upcoming T20I series be more competitive than the ODI series?

Bangladesh captain Mehidi Hasan Miraj, who scored 28 runs in the final match, accepted his team’s inability to make sufficient partnership during his chase. He was only one of the six Bangladesh batsmen to reach double figures in the match.“We could not just partner just like Sri Lanka. They had a major partnership after losing three wickets for 100 runs. The partnership in the middle overs is important. We got a pair of the 40s, but it is difficult to win without these partnerships in OD cricket,” said Mehidi. Both teams will now focus their attention in the upcoming three-match T20I series, with the first game to be the first game to be held in Pankele on Thursday.
