Brendon Donovan’s 2-RN blast helped to take Cardinals down

Brendon Donovan hit a two-run homer as St. Louis Cardinals defeated Washington National 4–2 on Tuesday night.

Lars Nutbar hit a single homer for St. Louis in a game that was delayed by rain in 2 hours, 19 minutes.

Cardinals won their last seven matches for the second time, while the citizens lost their fourth straight game.

St. Louis Starting Pitcher Sunny Gray (9-3) conceded two runs on five hits in five innings. He hit six batsmen and one went away.

Steven Mattz, Phil Maton, Jojo Romero and Ryan Halesley worked in a scoring innings for cardinals, in which Halesley earned her 18th Save.

Citizens starting Pichers Jake Irwin (7-4) conceded four runs on six hits and four runs in six innings. He hit three.

Washington proceeded 2–0 in the third innings. Jacob Gone with Young Ek, went to third place on the single by CJ Abrams, and scored on James Wood’s single.

Luis Garcia Junior followed a run-scoring fielder’s choice with the grounder.

Cardinals responded by taking a 3–2 lead with four direct hits in half of their innings. Victor Scott II hit a leadoff double and Donovan chased with his homer.

Massin Winn scored a single and scored on Alec Berlson’s double.

Gray survived a jam in the fourth innings. Josh Bell hit a leadoff double and went to third place on Dlenn Lil’s account single, but Riley Adams said in a double play.

Garcia hit a single and Bell walked an-out in the sixth innings, but Matz caressed a double-play grounder from Brady House.

At the bottom of the innings, Nutbar’s homer made the cardinal lead to 4-2. Vinen almost gave a belt to a homer in the seventh innings, but Wood reached the left area wall to deny it.
