Number 5 Taylor Fritz defeated number 17 Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) on Tuesday in London and proceeded in the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the first time.

Fritz lost twice in the quarterfinals in Wimbledon, dropping Rafael Nadal in 2022 and Lorenzo Mussetti in 2024 from five to five-to-two-to-death. The 27 -year -old has 10 ATP tour titles, but is still winning a major.

In his on-court interview after the match, Fritz said it was a relief to bring his Russian rival into the past in a two-hour, 36-minute match.

“This is a wonderful feeling,” the native California said in its on-court interview. “Apparently twice was played here in the quarter -finals and lost twice in five (set), I don’t think I could take another one. So I’m really happy that I’m going to play semi here.”

Fritz had 16 aces to go with 31 unexpected errors in their 47 winners.

In the third set, nerves started strike when Khachanov broke Fritz’s service twice and increased the total points by 29 for Fritz.

“I feel great to get through it,” said Fritz. “I think the match was running so well for me for two sets. I have never done a match that is really flipped so soon, so I am really happy how I came back to the fourth set and completed it. I think the speed was definitely going to the fifth.”

In the semi -finals on Friday, Fritz will meet the winner of the quarter -final match after Tuesday, which will be between Spain’s No. 2 Seed Carlos Alakraj and Britn Cameron Nori.
