David da Costa’s goal of Timbers pushes the past revolution

David da Costa recorded a tiebracing goal in the second half and Ian Smith scored in the first half and helped Portland Timbers win 2–1 on the New England revolution on Saturday night.
Luka Langony scored a goal for New England.
The match was the first at the Providence Park for Kranti Coach Kaleb Porter since the match 2017, when he finished five years as the coach of Timbers. Porter directed Portland for the 2015 MLS title.
Portland (9–5–6, 33 points) is undefeated in 10 direct domestic competitions (6-0-4) since losing its season’s opener against Vancouver Whitecaps on 23 February.
New England (6-7-6, 24 points) saw the end of the seven-match road unbeaten stretch (4-0-3).
Da Costa scored a go-forward goal in the 72nd minute when he saw a little daylight despite being posted outside the box. He left the fly with a right-leg shot in the right corner of the mesh.
New England’s Maxi Uruti sent a right leg explosion to the net in the first minute of the second-half stoppage time.
Aljaz Ivasik made three savings for the revolution, while Maxim Crepue of Portland stopped two shots.
Timbers had a 14–13 lead in shots and placed five on the target for three of New England.
Portland took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Smith ripped the left leg shot from the left to the top right corner of the net.
Kranti scored 15 minutes later. Carls Gill booted a long ball from his zone and Langony followed it. He moved towards the net and Portland’s Kamal Miller slipped to stop a shot, with Langony in the 35th minute to stop and boot Krepo’s rear leg shot.
Leo Campana of New England had a concrete opportunity two minutes ago. He got a pass and was correct in front of the net, but lifted his left leg shot over the crossbar.
Campana also came empty in the 57th minute when her left leg was stopped by Crepue.
After Portland proceeded, Santiago Moreno had opportunities with their right legs in the 77th and 86th minute, rescued both times. After the latter attempts, Da Costa obtained a rebound and set a hard shot in the right right to the net.
New England’s Peeton Miller had a big chance in the 17th minute, but his left leg explosion was stopped by Crepue.
