Shubman Gill reacts to the parents to surprise the video after the historic knock

Shubman Gill’s 269 is now the highest test score by an Indian batsman in army countries.
All the noise, all the doubts—Shubman Gill silenced them one stroke at a time with a majestic 269 at Edgbaston. On a surface that demanded temperament and for sure discipline, the 25-year-old Indian skipper delivered his finest international innings yet, etching his name into history with the highest Test score by an Indian on English soil.
What did Gill’s parents say to him?
But if Day 2 was a cricketing masterclass, it ended with a moment that tugged at the heartstrings. In a video shared by BCCI, Gill was surprised with a message from his parents. “Shubman beta, well played. Batting dekhke bahut maza aaya. Aur dil mein bahut shukun mila… bahut hi proud feel huwa,” said his father, while his mother blessed him with a warm smile.
Gill, clearly touched, grinned. “This message means a lot to me. Growing up, I played almost all my cricket for my dad. He and my best friend are the only two people I listen to when it comes to cricket. But yes… it also reminded me that I missed my triple hundred!”
It was a heartwarming behind-the-scenes glimpse of the star, who got emotional over home videos. Dhol beats welcomed him back to the hotel, but Gill’s mind was still on his missed milestone. He could’ve become only the third Indian ever to score a triple hundred. Virender Sehwag (twice) and Karun Nair are the only two players to achieve the historic feat so far.
His post-match routine? “I went to the pool for some recovery, came back, showered. I was having dinner and you guys stopped me in the middle to record this,” he chuckled. “I check my phone only before bed—just to talk to my family.”
