Shubman Gill became 1 Indian captain to score double hundred in England

Shubman Gill claimed his desire to become the most run-scorer in the England vs India Test series, and is on his way to achieve it.
Some batters feel the pressure when made captain. However, only a few cheer (and not fear) the responsibility of leading their nation with a stamp of authority. Shubman Gill, so far, has shown that he belongs to the second lot. In only his second match as India’s Test captain, the ‘Prince of Indian cricket’ has smashed a stupendous double hundred at Edgbaston, Birmingham. In doing so, he has become not only the first Indian captain but also the first Asian captain to achieve the massive feat on English soil.
Captain Shubman Gill spearheads India’s batting & how
Prior to the Test series against England, questions were posed on Shubman Gill’s position in the team as a batter, let alone as the leader of the pack. He averaged 35 with no century in SENA countries. Fast forward now, he has a double hundred and a 147 in just two weeks. Talk about impact!
Gill came out to bat early on in the match after Karun Nair failed the audition for a number-three spot. While Gill was quite attacking in the previous match in Leeds, he passed the patience Test in Birmingham. He completed his 50 in 125 balls before completing his ton in the third session on Day 1.
Shubman Gill the record breaker
Gill began Day 2 at 114 and he came out with special intent. While Ravindra Jadeja completed his 23rd Test fifty, Gill continued his march and piled on England’s misery. Day 2 offered much more ease to batters and Gill didn’t leave a single opportunity to soar up his score.
Gill’s knock in Birmingham against England was truly special! It wasn’t just his maiden Test double century, which is a massive achievement in itself, but he also etched his name into the record books in quite a few ways.
Think about it: he became the first ever Indian captain to score a double hundred in England, which is huge! He also surpassed the record for the highest individual score by an Indian captain in an overseas Test, previously held by the great Virat Kohli. And the cherry on top? He’s the first Asian captain to hit a Test double hundred in a SENA country (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia)!
Sunil Gavaskar’s 221 in 1979 was the highest Test score by an Indian in England. Gill has surpassed even that as he stood on 222 by the end of 126 overs.
