Indiana Fever Star Guard Sophie Cunningham raised the issue with two out of three expansion cities who will join the WNBA.

The day after Cunningham’s important comments came on Tuesday during the shooting of his team when Commissioner Kathy Engelbert announced Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia would join the league in 2028, 2029 and 2030 respectively.

“You also want to listen to your players. Where do they want to play? Where are they going to be excited to play and attract fans?” Cunningham said, 28.

“I think Miami must have been a great (place). Nashville is a wonderful city. Cancass City, amazing opportunity.

“… I am not sure what the idea process is, but at the end of the day, you want to make sure that you are not expanding our league very fast. I think it’s another thing.

“This is a difficult decision -making situation. But man, I don’t know how excited people are in Detroit or (Cleveland).”

The expansion will deliver WNBA to 18 total teams.

“Big demand for the WNBA franchise,” Angelbert said at a news conference on Monday. “There was a huge demand. What is really proud of what my team has done. Looking forward to future interactions as a league.”

The league currently stands in 13 teams, setting up to WNBA in 2026 with franchisees in Toronto and Portland.
