Nitish Rana is not eligible to play due to this BCCI rule

Nitish Rana recently changed his loyalty to Delhi after a recent failed tenure.
A few days before the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 mega auction, a major development has emerged around KKR captain Nitish Rana. Despite returning to Delhi state setup after two heavy sessions with Uttar Pradesh (UP), the left -handed batsman has been disqualified to attend DPL 2025 due to BCCI regulation. The DPL auction is scheduled to take place on July 6 at 10 am, but Rana will not be one of the names in the pool.
A forgetable term ends in homecoming
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) recently confirmed Rana’s decision to return to Delhi after providing him a no object certificate (NOC). After playing his name for Delhi, Rana went into a dialect in 2023 to revive his red-ball career and also captained the side.
But things did not happen according to the plan. In 10 first -class matches, Rana scored just 447 runs at 31.92 with only one century. Their list A and T20 returns were even more modest – 72 runs in 72 runs and 314 runs in 16 T20s. After being removed from the Ranji Trophy squad of UP and even UP went out of the T20 League auction (this season), Rana called to return to Delhi – the state where he grew up playing.
Interestingly, reports suggested that Rana’s long -time patron India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir played a role in facilitating the move.
Why can’t Nitish Rana DPL 2025 play?
Given his switch in Delhi, many fans estimate Rana’s participation in DPL season 2, especially with the tournament, expanded eight teams this year. However, Rana’s name will disappear from Sunday auction due to a section in BCCI’s domestic player transfer policy.
According to the BCCI rules, any player switching to the state associations should inspect the 12-month cooling period before becoming eligible to play the local T20 league for the new association. Rana, who captained an up franchise in his domestic T20 league a few months ago, has not met this cooling-off requirement.
βHe has taken an NOC from UP and deserve to represent Delhi in the official BCCI tournament, but he cannot participate in DPL this year“A BCCI source told Cricablogger. For now, Rana will only be seen in national level domestic tournaments, postponing the possibility of his DPL debut by 2026.
