Shubman Gill accepts the lack of low-order with the bat, wants more than the top-order

Team India has never won the Test in Edgbaston, and Shubman Gill admitted that the lower-order, batting war cannot be expected again.
The India team was in a solid position twice while batting in the first Test at Leeds. And from there on, two collapses meant, the team gave a chance to England, to come back in the match. And Ben Stokes’ team did just that, and beat us by 5 wickets, while chasing 371 runs.
Collapses in Leeds Hurt Team India
On the eve of the second Test in Birmingham, Shubman Gill said that the top-order needs to take responsibility, since the tail is not as strong as some of the other teams in the world. He also mentioned, that in the first innings, when his partnership with Rishabh Pant was going on, he should have added another 50 runs.
“It’s been one of the things that we always talk about, especially with our batting depth, that our lower order sometimes isn’t able to contribute as much as the other teams. But having said that, you can also look at the other side as well. I was batting on 147, and the way I got out, maybe I could have scored 50 more runs in partnership with Rishabh [Pant],
No hope from the tail, Shubman Gill believes
“If you get a good ball and you get out, that’s fine. But once you are set and you don’t really have that much depth in your batting order. Maybe the top order could go take a little bit more responsibility and bat completely out of the game,” Shubman Gill said. Meanwhile, Edgbaston is a fortress for England, where they have never lost against India.
In fact, there have only been one draw, and seven losses for Team India at the venue. Winning here is something even legendary skippers like Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli could not achieve here.
