Asia Cup 2025 likely to start on 10 September, schedule by July

A formal decision on Asia Cup 2025 is likely to be taken in the first week of July and is expected to start from September 10 onwards. Earlier, reports had suggested that UAE could be the co-host for the tournament along with India since Pakistan will not travel to the latter, as per their agreement before Champions Trophy. Now, a report has claimed that the uncertainty over Asia Cup would very well end soon.

Asia Cup decision soon?

As per Cricbuzz, the ACC is hopeful of releasing the schedule for the six-team tournament which will be played in T20I format in the first week of July. The fixtures will be decided, finalized and announced when the ACC meets in July. The six teams that will participate include Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the UAE.

BCCI awaiting the Indian government’s approval

India’s participation in the Asia Cup is yet to be ascertained following the simmering tensions between the country and Pakistan over the recent months. Last month, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia denied rumours that India won’t feature in the 8-team tournament. InsideSport had learnt that the BCCI is awaiting a response from the Indian government when it comes to participation in the Asia Cup 2025.

“There is no discussion or even a remote thought about boycotting matches. We play Pakistan in the ICC events and it will go on if our government doesn’t say otherwise. As for the Asia Cup, we will know in the coming days,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.

It is understood that neither BCCI nor PCB gave any pushback when the ICC placed India and Pakistan in the same group for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. This suggests that things are moving in the right direction. Both boards are wary that if either of them forfeits playing in the Asia Cup 2025, it might have repercussions in coming ICC or ACC events.
