Gold medalist Kirity Coventry took over as IOC president

Kirsty Covantry took over as the chairman of the International Olympic Committee on Monday, became the first woman and first African to lead the organization.

At a ceremony at Lausen, Switzerland, Coventry received Golden for the Olympic House from the outgoing President of Germany Thomas Bakh.

The 41 -year -old Covantry from Zimbabwe vowed to strengthen the Olympic movement during his eight -year term.

He said, “These next few years will ensure our movement to work together and find ways to continuously unite and keep united and we will all allow it to allow all that we can wake up daily and continue to motivate the next generation, continue to change life, and the most important thing is to make dreams true,” He said in a statement issued by IOC.

Swansan was an Olympic swimming champion, who won gold medals in the women’s 200m backstroke at the 2004 Athens Games and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He also won five other Olympic medals.

Coventry said during the ceremony, “I am really honored that I meet you to run this journey.” I know that I have the best team to support me and our movement over the next eight years. “

Swansan enters the role in Italy with less than eight months till 2026 Winter Games. 2028 Summer Games are prescribed for Los Angeles.

Bakh praised his successor.
