Record-breaker Rishabh Pant moves beyond MS Dhoni, level with Sachin Tendulkar after Headingly heroes

Rishabh Pant level Sachin Tendulkar and lasts MS Dhoni after his twin tons in the IND vs ENG 1st Test

Rishabh Pant smashed a series of records with a stunning assault on the England attack in the IND vs ENG 1st Test. After a century in the 1st innings, Pant followed it up with another in the second in a flamboyant display. The 27-year-old left former India captain MS Dhoni in his wake, while also equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record in England.

Rishabh Pant became only the second wicketkeeper in Test cricket to score twin centuries after an epic knock in Headingley. The left-hander scored 134 in the first innings and followed it up with 118 in the second to put the visitors in front. The 27-year-old now has four centuries in England, the joint second most by an Indian batter in England.

Rahul Dravid leads the charts with 6. Pant is now level with former India captains Dilip Vengsarkar and Sachin Tendulkar who both scored 4 each. Tendulkar had 4 tons in 30 innings, while his Mumbai counterpart Vengsarkar achieved the same in 23 innings. The left-hander has done so in just 19 innings, with 3 centuries in his last 5 innings on English shores. He is the first Indian to score centuries in both innings of a Test in England.

While he equalled Sachin, he went past MS Dhoni. Pant now has the most runs by a visiting wicketkeeper batter in England. Dhoni had set the previous record with 778 runs in 12 Tests, with 8 half-centuries in 23 innings. Pant after his 118 has 808 in 10 Tests, with 4 centuries. His 4 centuries are also the most by a wicketkeeper batter in England.
