IND vs ENG 1st Test: KL Rahul shows class with gritty ton
KL Rahul held the Indian innings together in a resolute display of Test match batting at the Headingley Stadium in Leeds. Having lost Yashasvi Jasiwal early, Rahul joined hands with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill on Day 3 to end up unbeaten on 47. India were soon restricted to 92/3 early on Day 4 with Gill dismissed in the second over of the day.
Rahul, who scored some free flowing drives, cut down his scoring to build a strong foundation with vice-captain Rishabh Pant. Much like former teammate Cheteshwar Pujara, the Indian opener held one end, making the England bowlers grind on a cold and windy day in Headingley.
It was only late in Lunch that Rahul opened the floodgates. He pulled Shoaib Bashir for a boundary and played a late cut off Brydon Carse to move into the 90s. He eventually reached the landmark in 202 balls, his third Test century on English soil. Rahul is the first Asian opener to score 3 centuries in England.

Rahul makes experience count
Coming into the India vs England series, KL Rahul was his team’s most experienced batsman alongside Rishabh Pant. He did all the hard work in the first innings, before throwing it away at a wide delivery. In the second innings, with the stakes much higher, Rahul was more measured. He left balls outside off stump well, and also dealt with the uneven bounce from the Kirkstall end.
