Perhaps not very surprisingly, Pocono (PA.) Raswe’s all -time winning driver, Denny Hamilin, was the fastest in the field on Saturday, to earn a poll position for The Great American Gateway 400 (Amazon Prim, MRN, SeriusXM NASCAR Radio 2 pm on Sunday).
Hamlin’s Gibs Racing Number 11 will take a green flag to start the Toyota NASCAR Cup series race and historically speaking, no one has led the area for more checker flags; His seven wins in Pocono are the highest in history. Note that the current NASCAR Cup Series Championship leader, William Bayran of Hendric Motorsports crashed his number 24 Chevrolet late in the qualifying session. The team had to roll out a back-up car for Sunday’s race, so Bayran would start from behind the ground.
Hamlin’s JGR team partner, Chess Brisco and Tye Gibs will start with the sixth and seventh and toyer radic, run by Hemlin-owned 23xi racing Toyota, which was the eighth fastest. JRG’s Christopher Bell is ranked ninth on the grid and Daniel Suarez of Trackhouse Racing will range 10th. Six of the top -10 cars were toilets.
Defending the race winner, Ryan Blane number 12 teams were the fastest 20th at Penscay Ford.
Four drivers did not score a qualifying run, including Bubba Wallace, the partner of the 23xi racing team of Radic, whose team rolled their car from the line just before their run. Josh Berry of Wood Brothers, Kodi Ware of Rick Ware Racing and NY Racing Brain Pole also did not make qualifying laps.
