Skiding Mates turned to Griffin Canning in the bid to slow down Phillies

New York Mets needed only 12 days in early June to open a 5 1/2-game lead on Philadelphia Philos.

It took only eight days to lead to evaporate.

Mets will try to climb back to a tie for the first place in the National League East on Saturday night when they play the second competition of their three-market series against host Philadelphia Philis.

Griffin Canning (6-3, 3.80 ERA) is slated to start for mates against partner right-handed Mick Abel (2–0, 2.21).
