Portland’s fire is ready to burn bright again in WNBA as the expansion team to debut in 2026 begins to take shape.

According to front office sports, several trademark applications have been filed with US patent and trademark office with Portland Fire name.

The fire originally made its debut in Rose City in 2000, but twisted after the 2022 season despite strong support. Portland’s WNBA entry increased to 37–59 with its best campaign in its three sessions, resulting in 16–16 records just before the folding.

“It was a great franchise that was so well supported by the community,” former fire head coach Linda Hargrove told the front office sports.

Hargrove was the only head coach that caught fire in his three sessions.

The Golden State Volcaries are making their WNBA debut this season, while the fire is ready to return to the league as an extension team along with the new Toronto Tempo in the next season. This league will be given to 15 teams, which was one of the declared targets of Kathy Engelbert, the commissioner of 16 teams by 2028.
