Gold Cup: Costa Rica Edge Dominican Republic on late goal

Costa Rica crossed an early deficit and broke a second-half deadlock with a dramatic Joseimar Alkokar goal in the 85th minute, so that the Dominican Republic could be overcome in the CONCAF Gold Cup play on Wednesday evening in Arlington, Texas.
In the decisive sequence, Manfred Ugalde collected a cross in the center of the ground just out of the 18-yard box. He found Elcokar with a piece of space among the defenders, and Alcocker moved towards the goal before sticking the ball on the goalkeeper Xavier Waldez.
Ugalde constructed a deadlock by converting the penalty kick in the 45th minute, to guess Waldez towards the right and to bury it to the left.
Joao Urbage scored runs for the Dominican Republic in the 16th minute. He saved a Kayeler Navas and gave his side a 1-0 lead for rebound and to knock a right-leg shot.
Jeet shifted Costa Rica (2–0, 6 digits) to the top to Group A, with Mexico (1-0, 3 digits) on Wednesday in Arlington with an opportunity to match Suriname (0-1-0, 0 points). The Dominican Republic (0–2–0, 0 points) sits finally in the group.
The top two teams of each group move forward in the quarter -finals.
