The England and Wales Cricket Board has decided to maintain a new Pataudi medal for the upcoming five-observant series winning captain after naming the Patudi Trophy for the Allorer-Anderson Trophy. The formal announcement planned during the WTC final at Lord’s was postponed in Ahmedabad due to the Air India plane accident in Ahmedabad.The decision to change the name of the trophy faced criticism from cricket veterans, including former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. However, Sachin Tendulkar personally intervened in the matter, reaching ECB about preserving Pataudi in the bilateral series.“When this happened, Sachin reached ECB and said that Pataudi’s name should be part of the Indo-England rivalry. Mr. J Shah was involved in the discussions. The ECB has agreed to the request and decided to present the captain who won the Pataudi medal, “a BCCI source revealed.The formal announcement about changing the name of the trophy is now scheduled for June 19, one day before the series begins in the Leeds.
