Thomas Byorn, Darren Clarke strong strong, lead in TPC Visconsin

Darren Clarke left 1 at the Mission Hills Country Club on 1 to start the final round of Gallery Classic at the Mission Hills Country Club on Rancho Mirage, California, Sunday, 30 March, 2025.

The team of Thomas Byorn and Darren Clarke were on an attack in TPC Visconsin on Saturday, reaching the US family in Madison, Vis after two rounds of the Insurance Championship.

Playing a scramble format in the second round, where each team chooses the best shot of two players and each hits his next shot from there, Byorn-Clarke Duo delivered five Berdis on the front nine before taking charge.

Clarkes of Northern Ireland, and Byorn of Denmark, were equal to seven of the last nine holes, including an eagle 3 in the Par-5 11th hole. 13-Under 58 came after 12-under 59 on Friday in the first round.

“Finally, it seemed that the hole was the size of a bucket, and you get so, but you also know that one night sleep, you can wake up and it may look very small tomorrow,” said Byorn. “This is the way golf goes away. But today … we probably felt as if we were 28 years old, killing such golf shots.”

Clarkes were particularly impressive on the day, distributed three birdies on the front nine and gave themselves 7-inwards on the back. Both players gave rise to the last four holes.

“It is really exciting that any tournament be given a chance to win, and then got a chance to play with Thomas at a team event tomorrow,” Clarke said. “This is what we practice, this is what we play. If this happens, great. If not, then we have performed our best.”

Steve Striker and Mario Tiziani moved to second place in 22 with a low round of day in 15-under 56. He combined 28 on both sides to shoot, each with an Eagle 3 in Par-5 seventh hole with each with each.

Strike and Tiziani had a shirt or better at 11 of the last 13 holes near Tiziani.

“We were in every hole to make a birdie,” said Tiziani. “I can’t really think of one.

A tie for the third place under 21 included Steve Flesh and Paul Goidos teams as well as Erny Els and Tim Heron of South Africa.

Flesch and Goydos finished third with 14-under 57, while ELS and Herron shot 59.

“We played very good golf today,” Flesh said. “Paul hit a lot of good iron shots, I hit a lot of good iron shots. I put a lot of putting a lot, Paul made a great put, which I don’t know if we expected to actually make.”

Two other sub -60 round Cameron Percy and David Branson (59), both were given by Australia and Germany’s Bernhard Langer and New Zealand’s Steven Alker (57).

Percy and Branson moved to fifth place under 20, while Langer and Alcar were ranked sixth for 19 years, with Richard Green and Australia’s Mark Hansbi.

The region will return to the best ball format used in the first round of Friday for the final round of Sunday.
