Catherine Bercoff sets us a record in 50 meter backstroke

Catherine Bercoff on Thursday won the US record at the 50m Backstroke, winning the event at the US Swimming Championships in Indianapolis.

The 24 -year -old Montana native ended in 26.97 seconds, topping the old 27.10 issue set by Regan Smith in 2023. Smith finished second at 27.20 on Thursday.

“I am definitely really happy with it,” Berkoff said, according to the Olympic.com. “My goal was to be under 27, so Super was excited about it.”

He said about Smith, “We are really good friends, and we support each other in the pool and from the pool, and they are the best training partners I can ask.”

Bercoff also won the event in 2022 and 2023 US Championships. His time was recorded on Thursday, the second fastest record, leaving behind the performance of only 26.86 seconds by Kayley McCain of Australia in 2023.

Bercoff was part of the United States Golden-Post winner 4×100 Medley relay team at the Paris Olympics last year, where it also earned a bronze medal in 100 backstrokes.

In other finals on Thursday:

Emma Wayent captured 400 Individual Medley Championships of women in 4 minutes, 34.81 seconds. Katie Grims ranked second at 4: 37.22, and Liah Hayes finished third at 4: 38.46.

Bobby Finke (4: 07.46) inspired Carson Foster (4: 07.92) to win 400 individual medals of men. Rex Maurer finished third at 4: 09.65.

In the 100 butterfly of women, world-ridden holder Great Walsh won the event in 54.76-a little away from the best of 54.60 sets at the beginning of this year. Tory Hussey wounded as a runner-up at 56.61, and then Alex Shekal in 57.71.

Shine Cassus held a win in the men’s 100 butterfly in 50.51, which is fine from Thomas Heilman (50.70). Dare was third in 51.06.

Lily King, a native of 28 -year -old Indiana, reinforced the domestic field, winning 50 breaststrokes of women in 29.88. Emma Weber and McKenzie Siroki finished in a dead summer for the second place at 30.43, squeeze the sciler Smith (30.47).

The men’s 50 breaststroke showed the nearest finish of the day, as Campbell McCain touched Michael Andrew at 26.90 in 26.90. Brian Benzing claimed third in 27.40.

Quintin McCarthi was a men’s 50 backstroke winners in 24.34, defeated Shine Cassus (24.44) and Will Modglin (24.76).
