Who will replace Virat Kohli at number 4 against England? Ajit Agarkar says “Once they get …”

Right -arm batsman Shubman Gill has been appointed as India’s 37th Test captain as Chief Selector Ajit Agkar on Saturday announced an 18 -member squad for a tour of England’s important five matches. As a meeting convenor with BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, led by Agarkar, elected the team at a meeting at a meeting at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, before he and Shiva Sundar Das announced it at a formal press conference. “We have discussed every option in the last one year, we have seen Shubman many times. He reacted a lot from the dressing room. Very young, but it has improved.”

“We hope he is a man. He is a terrible player, our best wishes.

Gill has played as a opener and number three batsman for India in Tests, and he now plays the leadership after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the format early this month. In 32 trials, Gill has scored 1893 runs at an average of 35.1, with five centuries and seven half -centuries against his name.

Gill’s previous leadership experience in the Indian team is overseeing the 4–1 T20I series win in Zimbabwe last year and being a white-ball vice-container, when the side won the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai. In first-class cricket, Gill has been the captain only five times-with a win, two necklaces and several draws to his record.

The 25 -year -old Gill is currently leading the Gujarat Titans, which tops the IPL 2025 points table, and are ready for convenience in the playoffs. His GT team colleagues and members of the coaching staff appreciated Gill for his activism, peace and strategic nous.

In the squad, Karun Nair returned to the Test team after seven years, while Arshdeep Singh and B Sai Reformson get their first Test call-ups. There is no place for veteran Pesar Mohammed Shami, who said that Agkar did not fully fit to handle the rigor of playing Test cricket.

“He was a little shock in the last one week, some MRI got. He was not going to be able to play five tests. He did not think his charge is where he should be. Medical people told that he would go out. We were hoping that he would play some part, but if he is not fit, we will wait and do not available.

Agrakar also said that Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir will call on batting makeup after reaching England. “They can call the opener after reaching there. But once they reach there, they will have a thinking about it.”

Agarkar also revealed that Bumrah would not conduct all five tests in England, saying that rapid bowling Spearhead leadership is more important for the side in its primary role rather than handling the system.

“Don’t think that he will be available for all five tests. Whether it is four or three, we will see how the series goes and how it is over. Even if he is fit for 3-4 tests, he will be a property for us. It’s just happy that he is part of the squad. He is more important for a player for us.”

“Once you are managing people, there is a lot that takes out of you. We have a chat with him, he is fine with it. He knows where his body is. KL is not really, he is captaining some time ago, he is a quality player and hope that he had a big series. With Boom, it was more about his work -management management.”
