Amidst the sixth direct losing season of the franchise a week after General Manager Mike Rizo and Manager Dave Martinez, the team hopes that Wilits – A Fort Cob, Oklahoma Native – can return to Gaurav for the 2019 World Series Champs.
Most of the pundits predicted the first choice of LSU Pitcher Ked Anderson or High School Shortstop Ethan Holiday, the first choice, citizens went to a different route with the Wilits. As a senior in 2025, Wils hit a .516 with nine domestic runs, 33 runs, RBI and 48 stolen bases. Originally a member of the 2026 square, the Wilits revived and committed to the University of Oklahoma.
After last year’s draft, a high school player was selected till the ninth (Conor Griffin to the Pirates), the National made the youngest overall pick in the draft history at the age of 17 years and seven months.
After being selected, the Wilits told the house, “I am just a player who is going out of there and everything I have received is everything.” “I think I have a good hit capacity and I’m taking it to the next level. I think my power is up and coming, but I need to come to an outfit like citizens, which can develop it and take me to the next level.”
The Wilits was the first top pick of National since 2010, when he drafted Bryas Harper.
“We can’t be more excited,” said National Interim General Manager Mike Debartolo. “Ellie is a special player. Great Hitting Tools. He makes contact, controls the strike zone. We love his swing. It is just a clean operation in the plate with developing power. Then he is just an elite shortstop, someone who lives on the shortstop. And the best fielder in the draft.

Anderson finished third, where Meriners taunted the college world series from LSU to the most outstanding player.
